General
Born and raised in New
Jersey, Emma moved around a lot in her early years. Although New Jersey
is known for its immaculate beauty, Emma's fondest memories are when she
lived in Lambertville NJ, where she would often get a vanilla ice cream
cone with her mother; and Stanton, NJ where she lived in a 250 year old
house.
Emma was born December
17th, and as a result of having a birthday so close to Christmas,
had to endure the dreaded "This is your birthday and Christmas
present!" But don't feel TOO badly for her: she is the first to
tell anyone that she grew up with an extremely loving and supportive
family.
Emma has one brother,
Chase: a talented guitar player, and very unique parents. Art seems to
run in the family. Her father is a news producer and author in New York
City and her mother is a cabaret singer/ film producer.
Performing is in her
genes: Practically everyone in the family can sing, dance, or be
dramatic... which is lucky because
they save a lot on entertainment when it comes to parties.
The Trip
Begins
Like most girls, Emma grew
up wanting to be a fairy, princess, nymph, or a fairy princess nymph, and
was often sited in her back yard trying to accomplish just that. She was
driven right from the start and always knew what she wanted.
Her mother has said that
straight from the womb she liked two things: lace and men.
She started singing and
acting in church recitals and pageants. She is also very fond of dancing
and has been taking ballet, tap, jazz and hip-hop since she was 5. She
knew she had to be up on stage or on a screen some day.
Bumps in the
Road
When she was 7 years old,
Emma's mom was diagnosed with Leukemia. She was given two years to live
without a bone marrow transplant.
It is now 13 years and counting and her mom is alive and kicking without
the help of a bone marrow transplant. She credits music as one of the
healing arts. She inspired all those around her, including her daughter.
Emma and her mom began singing together at events which eventually led up
to their cabaret show in 1999 called "Miracles in A Minor", and
yes, Emma was the minor miracle . Without her mom's courage to beat
Leukemia, and her decision to turn to music, Emma doesn't think she would
be where she is today.
Road
Work
After her debut on the New
York off-Broadway stage, Emma joined two different performing arts groups
- "The New Dance Theater Group" and "The Five Alarm
Troupe"
Emma got bit by the acting
bug for real when she and her Mom took an acting class at The School for
Film & TV. Her first appearance on camera was as an extra on All My
Children. It was a small part, seriously if you blinked you missed her,
but still it infused a sense of comfort in front of the camera.
Afterwards came small roles
on Law and Order:SVU and Third Watch, a few commercials and an
independent film.
Her first break came in the
spring of 2006 with the release of "The Bedford Diaries", a WB
primetime series where she had a substantial role.
Her first real acting job, came with the movie Death in Love starring Jacqueline
Bissett, Josh Lucas and Adam Brody, directed by Boaz Yakin. She was
finally able to stretch her acting chops, delving into the character of a French
Jew in a concentration camp during World War 2.
Schooling
School was always a
priority for Emma. At the age of 16, while she was a sophomore in
high-school, she was accepted into one of New York's performing arts
high-schools. She moved into the city, by herself, in spite of a lot or
raised eyebrows. She finished her sophomore and junior years there and
then completed her senior year with tutors at home.
At this point auditioning
became a major factor in her life and she didn';t have the time for a full
school day. Although she graduated high-school, she isn't in college
because of her hectic schedule, but would still someday love to get a
degree in language.
Interests
She loves to travel - to
any place any time. On her first trip to Paris, when she was 11, she fell
in love with the elegance and energy of Europe, (her fondness of chocolate
was also satisfied at the many cafes there.) She gets an itch to go back
about every two years. She also loved Madrid and London , and someday
hopes to visit every country in Europe.
